Educational Heroes of Indonesia - Woman History Series

There are two groups of people who are weak in getting their right of education and a decent life, they are women and children in rural areas. They are often taken for granted, and exploited by people who want to make a lot of money. But thank God there are always people who are willing to help them meet their education without expecting money.

Educational heroes of Indonesia

Actually, there are many people who want to strive, only a few of them are revealed in history. In the history of Indonesia, there are two women who are influentially strive for education, Raden Ajeng Kartini and Butet Manurung.
Raden Ajeng Kartini (21 April 1879-17 September 1904) is a Javanese Woman, he wrote many letters to tell his thoughts about women's education in Indonesia. She was very sad because women do not get their right of education as that obtained by men. After her marriage, Kartini set up a girls' school. Unfortunately, not long after that she died. But after her death, schools for women were increasingly developed at some places in Indonesia. We celebrate her heroic every 21 April.
In contrast to Kartini, Butet Manurung or Saur Marlina Manurung still alive today. She got Magsaysay Award for her strive to educate children in the jungles of Bukit Dua Belas, Jambi, Sumatra. Butet highly motivated to educate Orang Rimba (an ethnic group who live in jungles Bukit Dua Belas) who can’t read and write, they easily fooled by Orang Terang (that’s the way Orang Rimba called people from the city), their forest were taken over by the Orang Terang because they couldn’t read the contents of letter of agreements. So did their food resources, that causes Orang Rimba experiencing hunger. After educating by Butet Manurung, Orang Rimba know their rights and can defend their own property.
Both of women are very inspiring me. Below are the books that tell about their heroic:
