How many of you who have the same problem with me: your child does not like sports? But, if you live in a town or village that has many sports facilities then it is not a problem. But if you live in remote areas like mine, where sports facilities are very limited, so you must be clever.
Helpful Hints: Reveal The Willpower For Kids Who Don’t Like Sport In Less Than A Year
When he refused to go to the exercise, we mainly push him, not punish him, by this way he will have the feeling that sport is fun. And although he is reluctance at the beginning, but when exercise begins he could do it happily. I think, sport should be done happily.
Sports in this article are sports that have structured exercise, has a specific name, and have structured competition. Named it badminton, football, marathon, swimming, tennis, etc. This kind of sport has rules and a specific place to do.
My son was not interested in this kind of sport. He was never interested in making achievements. Well, as his mother, I’m not ambitious not send my kid to be excellent in one of these sports. For me competitive sport make me feel uncomfortable because we have to practice over our ability. It is different from sports for health reasons.
There are many advantages that kids can get from exercising regularly:
1. Kids can maintain their health
2. Kids can socialize with new friends.
3. Kids can train their sportsmanship, accept defeat, and practice to keep humble when winning.
Back when we were still in the city, my child regularly practice taekwondo. But unfortunately, this remote area only have a few sports clubs. Badminton, tennis, football and ping-pong. And we finally chose badminton as a sport for our son.
Did he easily accept our suggestion to participate in badminton? Certainly not. He refused and stated his objections. But in many ways, we were finally able to make him interested in badminton. Here are the ways that we keep doing:
1. Buying the good badminton equipment. Once I and my husband decided to buy a racquet for my son, with dynamic colors and famous brand name. However, a famous brand will deliver pride to the user, and comfortable when using it.
2. Tell my son about the history of the badminton achievements of our country. Our country, Indonesia, has good performances in badminton. By telling this to my son, he will have pride and be encouraged to try badminton.
3. Tell him about positive effects of badminton to his body: have a maximum body height, heart and lungs healthiness, and more muscles.
4. I was present when my son exercises to make him feel more secure in the early days. Then when he began to feel comfort, we let him go by himself.
5. Provide positive feedback and motivation, encourage my son about his exercises.
6. Make friends with his new friend, socialize with them, and go away if my son feels comfortable with his new friend.
7. Establishing a good relationship with the coach. This is very important, because parents have to communicate about the kid's conditions to the coach so that coach understand the needs of my son, and we can understand the programs.
8. Avoid too much ambition for achievement, however, to be able to do a sport is not meant should be able to achieve performance. Excessive parent’s ambition will make the kid feel tired, that will not be good.
9. Provide my son with an immediate reward. Simple reward that can be directly received by my son after a tiring workout will uplift him. I used to gave ice cream or ice tea to him as a simple direct reward.
Although the above methods applied in the badminton, but can be applied to other types of sports. Just need very little adjustment, for example, at points 1, buy sports equipment that is specific to the sport that your kids attend.
It's been 6 months my son join the badminton club, he is comfortable with the exercise and gets positive points I have mentioned above. However, my son seemed reluctant to exercise each time the schedule begins, it's the time we remind him about the good effects which he would gain if he goes to exercise. When he refused to go to the exercise, we mainly push him, not punish him, by this way he will have the feeling that sport is fun. And although he is reluctance at the beginning, but when exercise begins he could do it happily. I think, sport should be done happily.

You bring up some good methods for encouraging kids to participate in sports. My son has no interest, and the sports in the US are very competitive, even at his young age. He likes to run and play so as long as he is exercising I am happy.
